Honda hopes that the 2015 Pioneer 500 side-by-side will be proof that fun and functional can go hand-in-hand. The diminutive new SxS carries two passengers and will retail for $8,499.

The Pioneer 500 is just 50 inches wide, and Honda says it will fit on trails that impose width restrictions. Even better, it will fit into the bed of a full-size truck. The wheelbase of 73.1 inches helps downsize the turning radius to 13 feet.

Honda’s 475cc four-stroke engine powers the Pioneer 500. It is tuned for low-rpm torque and has electronic fuel injection. The five-speed gearbox uses an electric shift system with paddle shifters mounted on the steering column.

The Pioneer 500 was designed by Honda R&D in Ohio and built at Honda South Carolina. Design features include a bench seat for the riders, a door and net that opens as one unit and a rollover structure that meets OSHA requirements. There is a heavy-duty receiver-style hitch on the back with a 1,000-pound towing capacity, and the rear storage rack can carry 450 pounds of cargo.

Red, yellow and dark green are the solid color options, and the camo scheme has a base MSRP of $9,099.

For owners who like to get creative, there are over 40 Honda Genuine and Signature Accessories that are compatible with the Pioneer 500.
